Informative Review Critical Analysis

The title and format imply that the paper is going to inform readers about GMOs without taking a certain position. The different aspects of this form ( bolded text, title in question form) are able to help grab readers’ attention and make them want to continue reading. Visual images and graphs are able to help the audience comprehend difficult scientific ideas or terms as the images simplify these ideas to make them easily understandable. The use of images helps paint a picture of the information that readers are taking in. These different types of adaptations allow for the text to be understood by different groups of people. I believe that my word choice was perfect as it was straightforward and can be understood by anyone. I also defined terms that may be unfamiliar to help the audience get an understanding/background info. I’m not too sure what specific linguistic ideologies the audience may hold seeing how I mention both the pros and cons of GMOs. But there may be concerns about the government and GMOs, along with certain morals that one may have. I addressed memories of structural racism in science by speaking on some ethical issues that the audience may have that are causing some distrust. The audience may fear GMOs due to the fact that they may be harmful and poisonous, however, it was discovered that GMOs and breeding have quite a lot of similarities with one another. However, as always this may not be enough to persuade readers so I feel I could’ve provided more memories/personal experiences. There are not that many informal terms, slang, or colloquial terms I use throughout the essay. I assume that the audience may understand that GMOs are short for Genetically modified organisms. One example I feel may resonate with my audience is the supermarket statement. Most of the fruits and crops sold at supermarkets aren’t labeled GMO or Non-GMO which may be unfair to those who may want to avoid GMOs due to fear. Besides that, I feel that I didn’t include real-life experiences which is something I need to work on. I believe the essay format helps the audience’s understanding as it allows for information to flow smoothly. In following a specific format, readers are able to grasp onto more knowledge rather than bouncing back and forth between information. When sharing information, it is extremely important to cite sources. In doing so, it allows for the reader to see that the information is reliable and you aren’t making stuff up. Additionally, it can also be beneficial to readers if they want to do further research. I believe the secondary audience most likely to read is anyone ranging from researchers, teachers, students, and parents. GMOs are an issue that concerns everyone, not just one group so I feel that it’d be an interest to anybody. I might make this information more accessible to audiences who don’t read the New York Times by posting it on the internet, such as on the web and on social media. As I discovered before, since technology is continuously evolving and most individuals have access to this, it is believed that people gain most of their information through mass media content. If my information were to reach second language learners, there’s a wide variety of things I’d do to help them gain access. Firstly, I’d offer to translate the text so they’d be able to read in the language they feel most comfortable in. Additionally, I could create a video/ presentation speaking on the issue with images, and provide subtitles so that they can listen.
